Mikey McCleary revives Amitabh Bachchan's era in 'B Seventy'

MUMBAI: Mikey McCleary, the Kiwi composer, who rose to fame with Bejoy Nambiar’s Shaitan (Khoya Khoya Chand), has reworked on Amitabh Bachchan's hits from classics including  Don (1978), Kabhi Kabhie (1976) and  Namak Halaal (1982) in his new album 'B Seventy'.

Also known as 'The Bartender', the multi talented musician along with his band has recreated classical hindi film songs from Bachchan’s yesteryears classics and given them a new and contemporary  feel. The music album under Saregama India also consists of videos. With music arranged and produced by McCleary, the album comprises of eight songs including songs like Khaike Paan Banaraswala (Don), Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein (Kabhi Kabhie) and Dilbar Mere Kab Tak Mujhe (Satte Pe Satta).

The starry night witnessed a sizzling live performance by singers Anushka Manchanda, Shalmali Kholgade and Saba Azad. Present at the occasion were Ayushmann Khurrana, Rahul Bose, Arunoday Singh, Leslie Lewis and Ramesh Sippy.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com Bose said, “Mickey has struck a chord among the audience with his Indo and western music. His success story is inspirational. Many young artists are walking on his path and I am in support of them.”

Sippy also expressed his appreciation for McCleary’s music that bought Bachchan’s era alive. “It is a change and it feels really good to listen to our old melodies in new modern beats. This is an experimentation and it depends on the audience to make a selection between the old melodies and the new creation.”

Saregama senior vice president Adarsh Gupta said, “Today’s younger generation has imbibed a modern, contemporary culture while retaining its roots in tradition. Music from ‘Bartender’ caters to that audience. We believe Mikey and his band have a great future in India and we intend working on a lot of promising new projects with them.”
