MUMBAI: The six stations of Radio One and the Kochi based Radio Mango are celebrating 25 years of India's sole cricket world cup win with day long on air initiatives. Radio Mango's exercise, termed "1983 LIVE", will air real time updates exactly as and when it happened on 25 June 1983 through this segment, along with interesting facts and trivia related to cricketers and cricket,interviews of celebrities analysing the match after its first innings, as they had done 25 years ago. 1983 Live started at 7.15 am and will include details from toss to post match presentation ceremony. Says Mango's creative director Arjun Madhusudan, "It was only when ideating for the event that we realised half the current team wasn't even born then!So we thought, what better way to showcase the win, lets do live updatesexactly as it happened! " Radio One's day long campaign titled "Replay 1983", will on the other hand, bring alive the drama of the period, with cricketers from Kapil Dev's 1983 team reliving moments from the glorious match against West Indies on air. Listeners can also catch interviews of cricketing legends, stars and some old timers as they talk about their experience of the World Cup, all through the day. The station will play retro music from the 70s and 80s all day, along with a whole host of segments to add to the flavour of the celebration. In Bangalore, Radio One will have 'live' ball-to-ball updates on the match, and callers can call in to wish the team the very best. Fashion gurus will share tips on how to dress in keeping with the times, i.e. retro, wearing boot cuts, bobby prints, flirt skirts and all that's trendy. Even gossip takes a retro turn on the station today, with RJs talking about Amitabh and Rekha's steamy affair, Mithun seeing Ranjeeta etc. Radio One Mumbai will have guests such as Amin Sayani in their studio talking about the world cup, and news updates will be also taken from the 80's with a focus on Indira Gandhi as PM and more.
