Lyricist Prasoon Joshi receives Shailendra Samman

MUMBAI: After piling numerous awards for his wordplay, lyricist Prasoon Joshi received the Shailendra Samman Award for Outstanding Literary Achievement for meaningful writing in Films on August 30, 2009 at Dehradun.

Prasoon Joshi received the award from lyricist Neeraj, who has written yesteryear hits like Rangila re and Phoolon Ke Rang Se, Such appreciation for ones work is always a very humbling experience. Add to that, the award was presented to me by none other than Neeraj sahab. These will be some of my most cherished moments ever,... he said.

Chief Minister of the State Ramesh Pokhriyal, erstwhile journalist and poet also appreciated him for his work. Earlier, lyricts Gulzar has also received this prestigious award.

Versatile, Prasoon has number of awards to his credit, including the Young Global Leader 2006 by the Forum of Young Global Leaders in the year 2006, in 2008 he was invited as the Cannes Jury Chairman and in 2009, he was named amongst the exclusive 10-member Cannes Titanium & Integrated Jury 2009 at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 2009. Prasoon Joshi is also part of the select three member Core Creative Advisory Committee for the Commonwealth Games 2010 along with Shyam Benegal and Javed Akhtar.
