Love Guru host migrates to BIG FM

MUMBAI: Popular late-night radio host and agony soulmate, the RJ who became a heart-J with empathic love advice  on Radio City's Love Guru,  which was then the highest rated show on Radio for over two years, has moved to 92.7 BIG FM where, as â€?J,'  he  is now hosting a new 3-hour late-night show that begins at 10 pm and rolls out across as many as 35 Hindi Speaking Markets of the BIG network.

The show rides on J's easy conversational style and ada' with listeners, and evidently banks upon his credibility and ability to empathise with the lovelorn, lovesick and love-troubled to draw them out with the gist of their problems which he then proceeds to discuss with them, bare-knuckled, as it were, and advises them on the issue.

Sunil Sahjwani, National Programming Director - 92.7 BIG FM, told RadioAndMusic.com, J has ruled Radio for over seven years now, and we have brought him back as our listeners' relationship expert and love counselor....

Sahjwani is careful to point out that J's new show has been conceptualized by the BIG FM programming team, and isn't merely an extension of what he used to do as Love Guru on Radio City, where too he advised lovelorn listeners. How is the erstwhile Love Guru's new show on BIG FM, Love Aaj Kal, different, then? Sahjwani says, On Love Aaj Kal, J will interview A-grade celebrities and get them to share their views on love and relationships. He will discuss topics that were hitherto never openly discussed – things like infidelity, heartbreak, intimacy, adultery and more -- and will give expert advice on these topics, with the intent to resolve these issues. Listeners can call in or reach him via SMS and e-mail. His mission would be to possibly make them fall in love all over again....

BIG FM's concept for the J show rides strongly on a two-section format – the first, of approximately an hour's duration each day, will feature a Bollywood celebrity -- absolute A-listers -- the cream of the crop; stars from the biggest hits of the year,... as Sahjwani describes them without revealing names yet -- who will chat with J about relationships and love, interspersed with music. And in the second chunk, J will devote close to two hours to the listeners and their problems and issues. He will play retro music from the 70s and 80s....

Why not get a new voice, a new talent? What's with stations picking up presenter talents from one another? Formerly with Radio City, Karan Singh, on returning to the space in India after a hiatus,  was grabbed by Fever where, to be fair, its feisty and innovative programming head Gaurav Sharma actually put on the line Singh's big strength -- the ability to seduce swooning aunties in the late night hours – by putting Singh in a mid-afternoon slot with success.

Sahjwani says, simply, J had done a great job as Love Guru, and was available. He is extremely talented, there's no doubting that. And since he was available, and we had a solid original concept that could use his talent effectively, why not? It isn't as if we have replicated anything. Our concept is extremely strong, very different sounding and uniquely packaged. It's an entirely new and different show....
As for Love Aaj Kal host J, apart from his strong and proven talent and success, he seems to have his credentials right for a show like this: he's been happily married to someone he had fallen in love with.

Incidentally, J is also an MD and a practicing paeditrician, television writer and soon-to-be-film script writer. This balanced, well-grounded and sensitive presenter whom thousands of people have poured their hearts out to on his earlier show on Radio City, is now, as he puts it, looking forward to interacting with many more people considering the fact that the show is now going to 35 HSMs, and also considering that the new BIG FM concept will have Bollywood celebrities pouring their hearts out in a way and on topics that they have never done before....
