Lifetime award for Bhimsen Joshi

MUMBAI: The Delhi Government has decided to confer lifetime achievement awards on Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and late Habib Tanvir for rich contributions in their respective fields.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday.

The award carries an amount of Rs 1.1 million, a citation and a shawl.

Joshi, a vocalist in Hindustani classical, is renowned for the Khayal form of singing as well as is his popular renditions of devotional music.

Tanvir was one of the most popular Urdu and Hindi playwrights, theatre director, poet and actor.
