Lata Mangeshkar releases devotional album

MUMBAI: Paying a tribute to her late father Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar, Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar recently released a devotional album ‘Shree Gayatri Mahamantra’ on his 70th death anniversary.

Composed by Mayuresh Pai, the album comprises of Gayatri Mantra and three shlokas of the Suyra Mantra.  Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Pai said, “Lata didi wanted to record a divine album to pay homage to her late father and it gave me immense pleasure to compose the mantra for her. I adopted a very traditional style for the compositions and working with Lata Mangeshkar was a truly divine experience. I learnt a lot from her.”

Earlier, Pai had composed two albums with the singing legend – ‘Saadgi’ and ‘Sarhadein’. He has recently scored the music for a Marathi film titled ‘4 Idiots’ scheduled to release later this month. The composer also plans to come out with his own album by year-end.

After being associated with HMV records for years,  Mangeshkar broke her long alliance with the music label and released the album with Kolkata based label Dreams Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Reports state that her relatives were not satisfied with the promotions of her last album ‘Sarhadein’ with the label and advised her to take the unusual route.

Commenting on the reports, Saregama business head - music Adarsh Gupta said, “According to us, we did full justice to the album and promoted it well. Given the monetization value and potential of the album, we promoted it to the best of our abilities. But everyone has their own view and probably a relative of hers was not happy with the promotions.”
