Lady Gaga's Indonesia tour cancelled

MUMBAI: After weeks of mounting protest from religious groups in the country, paparazzi queen Lady Gaga has cancelled her upcoming ‘Born This Way Ball’ concert due to security concerns in Indonesia.

Scheduled to be held on 3 June in Jakarta, the concert is stalled following recommendations from the local police, who demanded that the singer be denied a performance permit due to pressure from conservative campaigners opposing her onstage antics. The ‘Poker Face’ hit-maker has now axed the show after protesters threatened to intercept her upon arrival in Indonesia.

The singer tweeted, “We had to cancel the concert in Indonesia. I’m so very sorry to the fans and just as devastated as you if not more. You are everything to me. I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown.”

Local promoters Big Daddy Entertainment lawyer Minola Sebayang said, “Lady Gaga’s management has considered the situation minute to minute, and considering the threats if the concert goes ahead, Lady Gaga’s side felt it right to call off the concert. This is not only about Lady Gaga’s security, but it also extends to those who will be watching her. The singer did not want this show to cause any harm to anybody.”

Jakarta was supposed to be the biggest stop for Lady Gaga’s Asian tour with over 52,000 tickets sold. The organizers claim that 100 percent refunds would be given to ticket holders.
