Lady Gaga tops social media charts

MUMBAI: London based social media metrics company, Famecount, today unveiled a brand new Music Chart, ranking the world's leading and fastest growing music stars based on their social media popularity.

Famecount listed the Top 10 Global Music Stars, and not surprisingly, Lady Gaga topped the chart with a following of 8.9 million Facebook fans, 4.6 million Twitter followers, and 307,410 YouTube subscribers.

Lady Gaga's combined fanbase across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube makes her not only the world's most popular music star, but also the most followed global social media entity across any genre, including consumer brands. The 24-year-old has seen her online popularity surge in recent weeks, and overtook Barack Obama as the world's most popular social media figure at the end of June.

Second to her is Britney Spears – currently the world's top Twitterer with over 5.2 million followers. Taylor Swift is ranked third, followed by the only non-living musician to make it into the top 10, Michael Jackson, thanks in large part to being the world's most popular musician on Facebook with over 13.2 million fans. Musicians like (in order) Justin Bieber, Ashley Tisdale, Coldplay, Katy Perry, John Mayer, Jonas Brothers follow.

An independent web application that uses API data from Twitter , Youtube and Facebook Connect to track, Famecount organises social media stars by country and category to help you identify the leaders on each network, and also produces a composite Famecount index based on relative popularity across all networks. The service can be accessed freely at: www.famecount.com.
