Lady Gaga becomes victim of online financial crime

MUMBAI: Paparazzi queen Lady Gaga has emerged as the latest victim of cyber crime, with her finances reportedly being hacked into by online criminals who have exposed the spending habits of around 38 celebrities and high-profile individuals.

Apart from Gaga, renowned Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie’s finances have also been hacked into by the alleged online criminals. America's Federal Bureau of Investigation is reportedly leading an inquiry into the scandal.

Agency reports state that the clandestine group has posted what they claim are social security numbers, credit card and banking details, mortgage amounts and other private information on a website with the domain extension .re.

The extension has reportedly led investigators to believe the site is based out of the French island of Réunion located off the coast of Madagascar.

Reports of the hacking organization emerged earlier this month, after several celebrities were targeted in a similar operation including Beyoncé Knowles, Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend Kanye West, Mel Gibson, Britney Spears, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ashton Kutcher and Robert De Niro amongst others.

America's First Lady Michelle Obama was also targeted, as her social security number, phone number, credit report and other financial details were released.

The FBI and Los Angeles police were pointing their investigation towards a group of suspected Russian hackers accused of stealing the information and posting on a website with the domain extension .su. The site was shut down by its host and reports suggest the .re domain is being used by the same operation.
