L Subramaniam, Kavita Krishnamurti honoured by AP CM

MUMBAI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. K. Rosaiah honoured violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam and his wife and singer Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam at a special ceremony in Hyderabad.

The ceremony was held to celebrate 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. For the occasion, L Subramaniam performed a few numbers from his upcoming Rabindrasangeet album.

L Subramanium is known for his grip over both carnatic and western classical music, and for his performances with the likes of Zakir Hussain and Earl Klugh. He also composed for the film Salaam Bombay (1988) and Mississippi Masala (1991) directed by Mira Nair, in addition to being the featured violin soloist in Bernardo Bertolucci's Little Buddha (1993) and Cotton Mary (1999) of Merchant-Ivory productions.

Kavita Krishnamurthy Subramanium on the other hand, is known for her classically trained voice, and has a wide range classical songs to her credit. In her career, she has worked with a variety of music composers,] including R.D. Burman and A.R. Rahman. She is also the recipient of four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards.
