Kayne earns $3 million for Kazak pres' party

MUMBAI: Hop Hop star Kanye West has been paid $ 3 million for a Central Asian president’s family party.

West performed on Saturday 31 August for Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s grandson’s wedding at the capital Almaty's luxurious Grand Tulip Hotel. West's appearance at the bash emerged via Twitter and Instagram postings by several of the party's guests.

According to Kazakh website Tengrinews , the party celebrated the nuptials of Aysultan Nazarbayev and Alima Boranbayeva. Aysultan, 23, is the youngest son of President Nazarbayev's eldest daughter. He is a graduate of Sandhurst, and now works for the country's ministry of defense. Boranbayeva, 20, reportedly attends London's Courtauld Institute of Art. Her father is Kayrat Boranbayev, chairman of the joint Kazakh-Russian state oil venture KazRosGas.

Human Rights groups have protested against West’s gig over Nazarbayev's human rights record. Other expected performers included Turkish singer Mustafa Sandal, Ukrainian pop star Elka, actors Gennady Khazanov and Nonna Grishaeva.

Earlier in the year, British PM David Cameron became the first British prime minister to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan.

Sting publicly rejected an invitation to perform at the Kazakh government's official Astana Day festival, citing Nazarbayev's "repression and crackdown" against striking oil and gas workers in 2011.
