Kavita Seth: "I'm open to sing for quality films"

MUMBAI: Sufi singer Kavita Seth, known for her husky and soulful voice, is open to sing for meaningful and quality driven Bollywood films.

Responding to media reports of her being recommended by actor Ranbir Kapoor for all his future projects, an amused Seth told Radioandmusic.com (RnM) that Kapoor’s recommendation was made some time back, but she was keen to work on recording soulful, character driven songs for films.

“A Sufi number would be great, but I’m open to different types of songs as long as they are not the vulgar and rubbish kind. Other than that, I am happy with my Riyaz,” she said.

She said that her voice however might not be best suited for lip-synching. “I don’t think my voice would suit each and every actress, maybe Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta who also have husky voices. My voice would suit background scores. Anyway, lip-synching seems to be going out of trend with songs being played out more on the background,” she stated.

Currently promoting her new album ‘Ek Din’ across the north Indian markets, Seth said it was neither a film’s box office potential nor its budget, which would decide for her.

“I am not the type of person who insists on working a particular music director or producer. Nor am I worried about the budgets. What I look for are the songs, those with poetry in them. The songs should touch the hearts of the listeners,” she said.
