Kamini Mathai reads A R Rahman: The Musical Storm in Bangalore

BANGALORE: Author of A R Rahman: The Musical Storm', Kamimin Mathai read sections from the chapter titled Dileep' and recounted her experiences with the composer and the people around him during the writing of the book. The book reading was held at the Reliance Timeout outlet in Bangalore on Friday evening.

Penguin had asked me to write this book six years ago. Every meeting with Rahman took long to organise, sometimes after eight or nine months of SMSes, I would get a phone call from him saying that we'd meet the next day!... revealed Mathai. I didn't know how to end the book, until Rahman won the Oscar and I knew that's it!,... said Mathai.

The book has been written with Rahman's knowledge and consent, I've had sittings with him and the people around him, but it is not his official biography. That is to come later from his side,... informed Mathai.

Mathai also spoke about the pain the composer underwent during his father's illness and death and his subsequent conversion to Islam.
