JMD Telefilms acquires two Rajasthani labels

MUMBAI: JMD Telefilms, denoting Jai Mata Di... has acquired two Rajasthani music companies, Arti Music and Tarun Music for a sum of Rs 1.5 million.

According to the deal, all the existing music rights belonging to Arti Music and Tarun Music will be owned by JMD Telefilms. JMD can further make use the brand name of the companies in future. JMD will pay 25 per cent as compensation after deducting all its expenses attributed on the said rights on annual basis out of its profit from sale of above brands.

With the deal, JMD has added 200 local titles, mainly devotional, to its library. Arti Music and Tarun Music have a significant presence in the regional Rajasthani or Marwari language and this strengthens JMD Music's library.

JMD owns copy rights of more than 300 music cassettes produced / acquired over a period of time with sole proprietary rights. JMD incurred a sum of over Rs. 500 Lakhs for preparation of cassettes and albums consisting of songs, bhajans, ghazal, qawwalis. Over the years, the label has created a niche for itself in the Hindi, Rajasthani, Bengali and Bhojpuri songs, albums and music entertainment segment.

The music labels has produced albums by famous singers like Late Mahendra Kapoor, Udit Narayan Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kumar Shanu, Vinod Rathore, Anupama Deshpande, Bhupen Hazarika and also Kailash Purohit, the proprietor of JMD, who has more than 100 songs in his own voice in various languages.

The Company have good strength with its valuable clients such as Gramophone company of India Ltd., Concord, HMV, BMG Crescendo, Atlantis Music, Saagarika, Gaathani Records and other reputed individual Music Directors of Bangladesh, Orissa, Assam, Delhi and other States in the vicinity of West Bengal.

The company had sold all his Music rights to ETC Networks for the Year 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 for two years as a brand image.

The annual turnover of company touched Rs. 54.54 Crore in financial year 2007-08 from 16.48 Crore and is expected to touch Rs. 100 Crore during the financial year 2008-09. Moreover the Company has successfully paid dividend for the 2nd consecutive year i.e. financial year 2007-08. At present the Company is having reserves of Rs. 3.26 Crore, which is about 162 per cent of Paid-up Capital of the Company.
