MUMBAI: Commemorating the tenth death anniversary of legendary poet and lyricist Kaifi Azmi, a special musical evening will be held on 10 and 12 May in Mumbai and Delhi respectively.

Ace lyricist Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi will pay tribute with A theatrical collage ‘Kaifi aur Main’ – saga of a poet scripted by Akhtar. The acclaimed play is a celebration of the renowned Urdu poet’s life with live music. The musical renditions of Azmi’s poems and songs will be presented by young ghazal maestro Jaswinder Singh along with a live orchestra.

Based on the reminiscences of Kaifi Azmi and his wife Shaukat, the narrative traces the journey of life from his childhood in Mijwan, to their unusual romance culminating in a marriage that lasted 55 years, life in Bombay in the 50s, his path-breaking work as a lyricist in Hindi cinema, his fight against life-threatening illness and more.

‘Kaifi Aur Main’ premiered in Mumbai in 2006 on Azmi’s fourth death anniversary. The play has received standing ovations and rave reviews in India and across the world.
