MUMBAI: Heavy metal band Iron Maiden begins its 2008 world tour 'Somewhere Back In Time Tour' in Mumbai, on 1 February 2008.
It is the band's first stop in India, with Bruce Dickenson flying their specially designed chartered flight. Iron Maiden will revisit their history as the tour harks back to their glory years of the eighties and will focus almost exclusively on the four albums that the band released from that era 1983 - 1988 namely, Piece Of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son. Iron Maiden will also return the awe inspiring stage set based around the legendary Egyptian production of their world famous 84-85 Powerslave Tour. Bassist and founding member Steve Harris says 'I always loved the Powerslave show, which I think arguably was our most spectacular ever, so taking it out again is really going to be a lot of fun'. Also making a return will be the bands mascot Eddie in his Cyborg avatar from the Somewhere in Time tour. This promises to be Iron Maiden's most ambitious and extraordinary tour yet.
During the tour Iron Maiden is expected to play to well over one and a half million fans and travel close to 100,000 miles. In an historic first, Iron Maiden, their 60 strong crew and support staff and over 12 tons of equipment will be traveling the world en masse for the first leg of the tour in a specially commissioned and converted Astraeus Boeing 757 festooned with Maiden and Eddie designs. Vocalist Bruce Dickinson who is a certified airplane pilot, flying for Astraeus Airlines will be piloting the Iron Maiden jet right through this tour. Comments Dickinson - 'It allows me to combine two of my greatest passions – music and flying'.
Says Pepsi's EVP marketing Sandeep Arora, "Pepsi and rock music go back a long way together. Roger Waters, Deep Purple, The Rolling Stones and the last time Iron Maiden was in India - Pepsi has played a huge role in the Indian rock fans life. Bringing some of the world's biggest rockers to the country and helping nurture talent with programs like 'Campus Rock Idols', Pepsi has always given the fans something to look forward to. And now, Pepsi is bringing Iron Maiden back for a second time and putting India on the world music map!"
Adds DNA Networks' managing director Venkat Vardhan, "This time around Maiden has based the live experience around the legendary Egyptian production. It is arguably the most elaborate and spectacular show the band has ever presented. Focused both on choice of songs to be played and the stage set".
Large and frequent tours have long been the backbone of Heavy metal music insulating it from the lack of support from commercial radio and Iron Maiden still follow a punishing tour schedule which would have broken men half their age. With their visual flair and flash matching the scale of coliseum venues, they have been one of the standard bearers of the genre, expanding the global audience for Heavy Metal, famously, in the 80's, taking it for the first time to then communist Eastern Europe, as documented in the film 'Iron Maiden behind the Iron Curtain'
Tickets priced at Rs 1650 and Rs 1000 are available on www.ticketpro.in and at all Planet M and Baskin Robbins in Mumbai and at select outlets in other cities. Also available at MOVIE EMPIRE , Carter Road, Bandra (W). Ticketpro Toll Free number: 1800 425 1115, Telebooking Number: 080 25201115
