Irish radio RTE wins 'Broadcaster of the Year' at NYF

MUMBAI: RTÉ Radio won ‘Broadcaster of the Year’ award for the second consecutive year at New York Festivals Awards 2012.

In 2011, RTÉ Radio became the first Irish radio station in the award ceremony’s history to be awarded the accolade of ‘Broadcaster of the Year’. The station won 24 other awards for individual programmes on RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ Lyric FM. The awards include 13 for programmes in RTÉ Radio 1’s Documentary on One series, three for Drama on One, two for the station’s Curious Ear series and one for the Athena Media-produced series Death of an Empire. RTÉ Lyric FM received six individual awards for programmes including a silver metal for educational podcast series Piano Keys.

RTE was chosen amongst many other competitors from 28 countries, including BBC Australian Broadcasting Corporation and American Public Media.

RTÉ Radio managing director Clare Duignan said, “To be named Broadcaster of the Year in this awesome international context – among world-renowned peers like the BBC and American Public Media – is important not just for RTÉ, but for Ireland.”
