MUMBAI: After airing six seasons of discovering new talent, popular singing reality show Indian Idol is back with a special junior version for kids between the age group of 5–15 years.

The first edition of Sony’s ‘Indian Idol Junior’ will feature popular musical composer duo Vishal-Shekhar as the judges. The show is expected to be a fun filled one, encouraging children to showcase their talent across the country.

The auditions will be held across various platforms like video through online, mobile app, SMS and IVR amongst others. Also aiming to give children a shortcut to the auditions, the channel has organized booth auditions across Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chandigarh.

Commencing today in Delhi, the auditions will allow children to come to special Indian Idol booths set up across the cities and give auditions. Selected participants will receive a special shortcut pass for the normal auditioning process commencing after two weeks.

Encouraging the kids to showcase their singing skills on the platform will be Indian Idol (Season 1) winner Abhijeet Sawant. The singer will be present in special on-ground promotions being conducted for the show.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Sawant says, “Since I was the winner of the first season and this is the first edition of the junior version, I was roped in for some on-ground promotions for the show. My role will be to encourage the kids and help them get a good platform to project their talent. Also with Vishal-Shekhar being roped in as judges, the children will be mentored well and the atmosphere will also be pretty chilled out. This in turn will be good for the kids as they need judges who can understand their views.”

The show is stated to feature a new format with different styles and will also incorporate a third judge, not being revealed by the channel yet. Indian Idol Junior will commence in the first week of June and will be held over a period of three months.
