MUMBAI: An 18-year old Indian-American singer Sharon Mathai is shortlisted among the top 24 contestants of American reality talent show 'The Voice'.

Mathai sang ‘Rumour Has It’ by Adele for her blind audition of the contest. She will be part of American singer-songwriter and musician Adam Levine's team.

'The Voice' judged by popular actress and music artist Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton consists of three phases including blind audition, battle phase and live performance shows.

Mathia said that it was not easy to convince her parents who hail from Kerala to let her break the tradition and forge her own path of pursuing her dream of making it in the music field. “My mother laughed off when I told them that I decided to call life in music and will not make a career in the medical field.”

Before auditioning for Season 2 of ‘The Voice’, Mathai whose father is a psychiatrist and mother a nurse, had also tried out for ‘The Glee Project’.
