IMA forum 2009: Tourism ministry to promote music at Commonwealth Games

MUMBAI: In a first of its kind forum aimed to start a dialogue between the key decision makers in the Indian Music industry, tourism ministry secretary, who was also part of the forum, offered to take a step to promote indian music during the common wealth games in 2010 at the Indian Music Academy Forum 2009 in Mumbai on 8 August, 2009.

Common wealth games are approaching. I think I can take a step forward and take our music to all the common wealth games and have road shows, and show the world that we have these musicians and this beauty in our country,... said Ministry of Tourism Sectretary Sujit Banerjee.

There are many things by which you can take our music forward,... he said, We have to take our people back to the beauty of our 5000 year old music. Just as tourism ministry promotes ayurveda, unani, siddha, yoga, homeopathy, we should similarly promote music,... he said. The 2010 Commonwealth Games are scheduled to be held in New Delhi between 3 October and 14 October 2010. This will be the largest multi-sport event conducted to date in Delhi.

Banerjee also spoke about the need for concert halls that will help promote music, In our country, we cannot say that we have a concert hall in every city. I have travelled extensively around the globe and I found that every city or town had a concert hall playing music of the region, I think, just as every metro has an airport, in India every city must also have a concert hall,... he added.

The IMA Forum 2009 saw active participation of veterans from the music industry, sponsors, government officials and visionaries like former president APJ Abdul Kalam to discuss measures to improve the present scenario of the music industry. An initiative of entertainment company Arts & Artistes', the forum was inaugurated by Hon. Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, IMA Founder Patron Pt. Jasraj, Padma Vibhushan and Pt.
