"I'm open to doing anything that concerns music" - Raju Singh

MUMBAI: He has strummed along with R D Burman as a youngster. Composer, Background scorer Raju Singh who dons several hats, has his hands full with a couple of projects on the silver screen as well as the small one

Some of his early compositions include serials like Dekh Bhai Dekh', Filmi Chakkar', Aahat', Boogie Woogie' and C.I.D'. He has belted the hit track Soniyo' from Raaz 2' and has composed music for movies like Traffic Signal', Satta' and many more.

Singh is currently working on Anand Mahendroo's famous television comedy Dekh Bhai Dekh' which will be adapted into a movie. There would be eight to nine songs in the movie. Things havn't been finalised as yet since the movie is still in its inception stage,... he says.

Having worked on a number on non film projects earlier which include â€?Tum Yaad Aaye' with Javed Akhtar and Alka Yagnik, Raju is currently working on a religious album which he would be launching soon. Indi pop genre is a dead fish currently. I have plans to launch an album but due to the slowdown, the plans have been put into back burner,... he quips

Singh's forthcoming projects on the small screen include Sach ka Saamna' on Star Plus, Luv Ne Mila Di Jodi', Bhaskar Bharti' and Ladies special', series of new shows on Sony TV and Shree' on Zee. He has also given the background score for Vishesh Films' Jashnn' and Tum Mile'. I am open to doing anything that concerns music,... he says.
Talking about the trend of assortment composers, Singh says, I would love to do a solo film. But I think directors should have the freedom for choosing the songs that they want for the film. It should not be binding on a director to have the same composer compose all the songs. My song â€?Soniyo' from â€?Raaz 2' has done fairly well and I think I have got fair share of credit for it as well...

Talking about the issue of plagiarism that some of the music composers are resorting to, he says, There is a very thin line between inspiration and lifting. When inspiration is a little more tilted, it becomes lifting.... Even though there is much hoopla about Pritam plagiarising songs time and again, his final products are strikingly impressive and always top the charts. Though it is not an excuse to resort to such an activity, his songs do appeal to the masses at the end of the day....

The composer has earlier composed music for a Malayalam film and is planning to render his tunes for a Kannada film as well. I compose the tunes first and then the words are put in. Contrary to popular belief, it is not very difficult to compose for a language that you are not very well acquainted with,... explains the music director.
