iApps gives Australian radio station global reach

* iApps have delivered Queensland broadcast company Prime Radio the means to go mobile and global

MUMBAI: Sunshine Coast-based software developer iApps was contracted by the Prime Radio to deliver several iPhone and iPod Touch applications for the family of seven stations; an app servicing the five Zinc stations, a Mix 106 app and a HOT 91 app.

The three free apps allow each station to stream live FM radio to iOS mobile devices. Provided there is access to WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity, listeners can enjoy their favourite station anywhere around the world.

With technology moving the way it is and the number of iPhone-, iPad- and iPod users increasing daily, Prime Radio is taking advantage of the momentum.

We are launching a new way to deliver our radio service to our listeners for free,... said Dee Johnson, Prime Radio Queensland Group Promotions & Marketing Manager. The Zinc, 106.3 and Hot 91.1 apps will be ready to download from the 1st of March, giving listeners access to our stations pretty much 24/7....

People are on the move so much more these days, so listening to radio via streaming is becoming more and more popular. We wanted to make it easy for our listeners to tune into their favourite radio station, anywhere for FREE,... Johnson said.

The benefits of providing an app for listeners will be evident on launch.

The advantages are not only being able to access the stations music, news and favourite announcers, but it's also becoming a very reliable source of information during natural disasters like the recent floods and cyclones. The ability to be able to communicate even when there are power outages is extremely valuable,... Johnson said.

The ZincFM app, Mix 106 and HOT 91 apps will be released into the iTunes App Store to download free from the 1st of March 2011.
