I was offered the 'Twist' song from 'Love Aaj Kaal' - Raghav

MUMBAI: After belting out hits like â€?Can't Get Enough' and â€?Angel Eyes', Raghav is back in the Indi-pop scenario with his new album â€?Identity' to be released by August end

Raghav's last album titled Storyteller' was released in 2004. Talking about the four year sabbatical, the UK based musician says, I have been touring a lot which kept me busy. Also I believe that if you are coming back, you should come back with the right kind of music and not just anything. It is often observed that you come up with your best work when you take time....

The album which has ten tracks, is a mix of eclectic melodies and cultural soundscapes and Raghav himself has composed all the tracks. The first song titled â€?My Kinda Girl' is a club song which is already being aired on VH1 and is also streamed on online portal in.com. The song has a sample of the track â€?Choli Ke peeche Kya Hai' from the movie Khalnayak. We have acquired the rights from Tips to use the track. I wouldn't mess around with that. And Tips has been very gracious to let me use the sample for my track. But what is ironical is that even though I was trying hard to get the rights for using the song there was a time when my track was being used without talking the rights,... he says. The next track â€?Humrahi' is crooned in Hindi

The singer has collaborated with international rapper Redman for one of the tracks. He is best remembered for his work with Christina Aguilera for the track Dirty,... he adds

Talking about entering about Bollywood space he says, I was offered the Twist song from Luv Aaj Kaal but it did not work out. For me it was really important to come out with this album. If I compose for Bollywood I would want to write my own piece. If people like my music and if something worthwhile comes up I would definitely take it up

He further adds, The music in Bollywood ranges from amazing to terrible. It can be either end of the spectrum. But some of it is really good music....

On being quizzed whether it is the right time to release an album since indi-pop genre is not working he answers, I never gave a thought about what should be the right time to release the album. People dint know me when my first album Cant Get Enough' wasn't released so how can they judge know who is good enough. Because I received an overwhelming response I am releasing my second album. So it should be left to the audience whether they want to listen to you or not. You have to have conviction in your music rather than thinking about the market scenario....

Elucidating his opinion on the use of social networking sites and internet as a tool for prmotions Raghv says, Though it is uncreative to micro manage the situation yet it is like two sides of the coin. A lot of people complain about how the internet has taken away the sales. And such conversations business conversations often leave me very unmotivated. But these artistes are doing shows in the countries where their music has never been released. People are hearing it, watching it or downloading it illegally at the end of the day in which ever form your music is reaching out to people. Hence we cannot categorise it as black or white.

It has both its advantages as well as defaults. Infact, I have done various shows in countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Australia and even Canada irrespective of the fact that my music has never been released in the commercial markets of these territories. So I owe it to the web big time,... he concludes.
