Hungama initiates anti-piracy unit 'RDR'

MUMBAI: To curb piracy, Hungama Digital has authorized R.D.Rathod Anti-Piracy Investigation Pvt Ltd (RDR) to sell licenses to the retailers who are involved in side downloading, selling music and related content on mobile phones across Maharashta, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh.

The company has registered more than 2500 retail partners in six months for the distribution of Hungama content including full length audio songs, MP3 ring tones, wall paper, animations and themes on mobile.

Commenting on the development Hungama Digital Media COO Siddhartha Roy said, The mobile and digital entertainment industry is here to open up opportunities for consumers to buy original content. At Hungama, we are providing an ecosystem that encourages consumers to download entertainment legally. We are happy that the retail initiative we started over the last few months has gained momentum and has also given consumers access to great quality content that is legitimate. We will continue to explore various avenues through which service providers, retailers and consumers can enjoy all vectors of piracy free entertainment....

The license cost is in the range of Rs 10,000-12,000 with one year validity. Hungama has also developed an application through which the retailers can disburse the original content to the consumers using memory card or bluetooth technology.

Hungama's anti-piracy agency has conducted more than 75 enforcement raids on shops selling pirated content in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab and Haryana resulting in awareness against music piracy.
