Gyaan Vani offers DW content in 4 more languages

MUMBAI: German broadcaster Deutsche Welle has signed a memorandum with the Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU) Gyaan Vani FM station that will now include Hindi, Urdu, Bengali and English language content over the 29 campus radio stations.

Talking about the new tie up IGNOU director V.K. Arora said, ?“The states and region to broadcast the shows in regional language will differ from campus to campus. We are yet to decide on when and how we should telecast the programs so that we have the maximum listenership?

In addition, Ë?Today Tomorrow' the science magazine of DW-TV will be integrated into TV channel Gyan Darshan. In return, Deutsche Welle has agreed to support IGNOU with training courses for community radio operators and journalists.

Germany's international broadcaster will oversee several intensive courses per year at the School of New Media Studies with a focus on new media production, science journalism, train the trainer and other subjects according to IGNOU's needs and DW-AKADEMIE's capacities.

IGNOU operates from New Delhi and has 29 campus radios (FM) and five broadcast stations. It offers basic and general education as well as professional training and a degree program in engineering.

The FM station programs 60 per cent curriculum based program while the other 40 per cent are enrichment based films for radio and TV.
