Grammy to exhibit Beatles drummer Starr's artifacts

MUMBAI: In a first, the Grammy Museum will dedicate an exhibit for a drummer. The museum’s new ‘Ringo: Peace and Love’ exhibit will put on display Beatles drummer Ringo Starr’s personal and professional artifacts.

Artifacts on display, some donated by Starr 72, include the Beatles drum-set he used on the Ed Sullivan show, costumes from Sgt. Pepper’s album cover, memorabilia from the height of ‘Beatlemania’, beginning with the band's August 1965 performance at New York's Shea Stadium, which was attended by 55,600 people.

Other features include a karaoke booth where fans can sing along to the song, ‘Yellow Submarine’.

After the Beatles broke up, Starr went on to have a successful solo career, which is documented on the exhibit’s museum wall.

“The Grammy (Museum] was an exact place for me. I thought I can do it in honesty here because it is the Grammy Museum, and its music. And so, that’s what I do, I play music,” Starr said.

The exhibition will be open till March 2014.

He is currently working on adapting the band’s song ‘Octopus’ Garden’ into a children’s’ book (Simon & Schuster) . The song was written by him 45 years ago. The book will be accompanied by a CD that will include a previously unheard song by Starr and a reading of the story. The book will hit the US in January 2014.

His book, photograph, which features previously unpublished photos of The Beatles, will be published as an e-book on 12 June.
