Google Play arrives in seven more countries

MUMBAI: Web giant Google has announced that their music service Google Play will be available in seven more countries- Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, and Portugal.  This is a major step by Google to challenge to Apple’s iTunes.

Music fans in the new locations will be able to store up to 20,000 tracks in the Google Music cloud for free. These tracks will be available on any Android device with an Internet connection, or via the Web using a PC. Users can upload their existing collection to the cloud and more tracks can be added that are purchased from Google Play store.

Google states that it has also simplified the purchasing process. The update, for all devices running Android 2.2 and above, will be rolled out in the US this week, and across the rest of the world in the coming weeks.

Prior to the announcement, Google’s music service was available in the US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Google Play also offers apps, movies, television programmes and books, but the US and UK are the only countries where customers have access to all stores.

Google Play Books came to Mexico in March. While, Movies were introduced to users in Mexico and India, also last month.
