Friends FM positions brand on music, releases CDs

MUMBAI: Kolkata based Friends FM has launched a volume of contemporary Bangla songs, Anandgaan Vol 1.

Released on 18 June as a part of its new brand positioning exercise, the CD is infused with a 'lot of experimenting in music, sound and musical instruments'.

AOPL, the parent company of 91.9 Friends FM legally holds the copyright of Anandgaan, while the marketing and distribution of the album are being done by Sagarika music.The album has 24 fresh tracks, bringing six artists of repute with different textures and resonance. The first volume contains 10 tracks, while the other tracks are scheduled for the next. Vol 1 has hit the market featuring Nachiketa, Lopamudra Mitra, Monomoy, Rupankar, Chandreyee and Radhica. The lyrics has been penned by Saikat Kundu and Saugata Rudra and composed by Joy Sarkar and Chiradeep Dasgupta. The tracks are interspersed with a commentary by RJ Raja and RJ Nilanjana, relating some amazing stories about the artists.

This is not the first time the radio station has released an in house album, though. The first album of the radio station was launched in October 2007.

Named after its Sunday morning show Tomar Akash Tomar Batash, the CD is a recorded version of the show hosted by Bengali actor Shoumitro Chaterjee.
