MUMBAI: Two internationally acclaimed bands 'White Lion' and 'FireHouse' will perform together at Shillong, together for the first time, on 13 December 2008.
To be held at J N Stadium, Shillong, the show is being billed as the 'mother of all concerts in the country'.
Firehouse would be performing in Shillong for the second time. Surprisingly, the band had earlier played at the same venue four years ago on the same date (13 December) in front of a record 35,000 fans.
Mike Tramp, the lead vocalist of White Lion chose Shillong for their first rock concert in India because they had heard from friends like Eric Martin of Mr. Big that Shillong holds the unofficial title of 'rock capital' of India. Shillong also holds a special importance to C.J. Snare of Firehouse as he proposed his wife Brenda after their show in Shillong.
The concert has been sponsored by Reliance Telecom and part of the proceeds will go in aid of clean drinking water and enhanced nutrition for the children at the St Edmunds providence school run by Brother Dsouza. The tickets are priced at Rs 400. According to the organizer Rajoo Sharma, the managing editor of TNT (The Northeast Today) magazine, such events will also go a long way in promoting local talent – 'Colours', a local band will be the days opening act.
It may be noted that the publisher and editor of the TNT, Pradyot Bikram Kishore is also the present King of Tripura. Pradyot Bikram Kishore himself is an avid fan of rock music and has previously been involved in organizing shows such as Mr Big, Firehouse and MLTR. Lately he has also been seen supporting the new singing sensation from Tripura Sourabhee Deb Burman in the Indian Idol.
White lion and Firehouse are well-known among the north-eastern population mainly for their hits like When the children cry, You are all I need, Cry for freedom, When I looked into your eyes and Love of a lifetime and both get regular airtime on the Radio.
