Event Review: Hariharan enthralls at Fever Concert in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The Shanmukhananda auditorium echoed with applauses, glittering lights, and drum beats, when Fever FM introduced the National Award Winner Hariharan on the stage of Fever Unplugged Concert, on Friday, 29th April, 2011. The three hour concert was a fun filled musical night with Hariharan's soothing vocals along with seven musicians beating up the rythms in their distinctive style with tabla, piano, guitar, drums, harmonium and flute which mesmerized and kept the audiences glued till the end.

The concert started with the Guru Mantra -  "Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara. Guru Sakshath Parambrahma..." which was followed by the National Anthem and after the official introductions, the moment finally arrived when the man himself, the versatile and melodious Hariharan was on stage

Hariharan started with 'Unse Mulaqat Ho To Ho' and left the audience spell bounded with his beautiful, breath taking and romantic renditions. He was very delighted on the fact that besides grooving on hits like Roja Janeman, Chanda Re, Krishna nee, the audience also cheered and appreciated his rajasthani composition Kesariya Balam which he sang with Female singer Suchimita  He expressed the glee saying, India has varied cultures and it is great to see that Indians respect, appreciate and enjoy all types of songs....

The complete entertainer left the crowd roaring with a chorus on 'Ahde masti hai' and the title track 'Nagme hain, shikwe hain' from the film Yaadein. Improvising and catching the upper and lower notes on Stephen's piano along with the tabla and drum beats Hariharan left no stone unturned to captivate the audience with his melodies.

He performed on hits including Ganesh Vandana - Vaakratunda Mahakaya..., Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hain, Roja Jane Man, Chapa Chapa , Yunhi chala, Sa ni dha pa ma ga ma ga re sa.., Tu hi re and gazals like Unse Mulaqat Ho To Ho, Ahde Masti Hai, Galat Hain Muskurana Chahta Hai, Mohe Apne Hi Rang Mein Rang De..and many more.

Hariharan has a distinguished style of performance which creates an illusionary situation of the song and takes the audience into a complete new world. His body language while performing beautifully sketches each and every word of the song and charms the audience completely. The seven instruments including the guitar, piano and harmonium with others added an aura of melody with grace and euphony

With his versatility in romantic songs, he captivated the audience again with Bahon Ki Darmiyan and Nahin Saamne. What added to the emotional quotient here was that the  winners of Fever Unplugged Contest were invited on stage. From ghazal to romantic numbers Hariharan enamored the audience completely.

Adding a Marathi touch for mumbaikars he also sang 'O Ho Kai Zhala' with son Akshaye  After every single piece the audience applauded and yelled once more. On continue audience request Hariharan sang Chanda Re again but this time it was in tamil version.

The crowd was completely taken aback and arose to a different high when suddenly after three tamil songs he started singing the classic, 'O Hasini Zulfon wali' and 'Govind Bolo Hari Gopal Bolo'. Expressing the excitement he said, Kishore Da is my favourite singer and the music that we singers are making in 2000's was already made by him in the 70's....

Hariharan told RadioandMusic.com, My journey with Fever has been wonderful. Being a part of the Fever Unplugged Concerts, with its soothing and no electronic music, holds a special appeal to me. As an artist, I look forward to these opportunities to play in front of an appreciative crowd and Fever 104 FM has provided me with such a platform., and this is just the beginning to the association, we are soon taking this to other cities across the country and abroad. ...

Roop Kumar Rathod with wife Sonali Kulkarni also expressed their happiness to be among the best musicial maestros. There was a tinkling smile with a desire of wanting more on every face while leaving the exit. A paisa vasool concert. Such concerts enliven the fact that rich Indian music has not flown away with remixes and item numbers and also throws light on the fact that live singing and truly versatile and highly talented singers are alive in India

Hariharan will be performing on Sunday, 8th May in Delhi for the Fever Unplugged Concert.
