Enrique, Shakira triumphs at Billboard Latin Music Awards

MUMBAI: Enrique Iglesias and Shakira ruled the 2011 Billboard Latin Music Awards; Enrique received nine awards, including Latin Artist and Latin Album of the Year surpassing Columbian megastar Shakira, who won six awards. The awards were broadcasted live on Thursday night in Telemundo from the University of Miami's Bank United Center in Coral Gables.

Thanking his fans during the awards, Enrique said, My life has been filled with good moments and bad moments but there is one thing that has been constant and that's been the public....

Enrique opened the performance with two songs â€?Tonight I'm Loving You' and later was joined by Juan Luis Guerra, Wisin and Yandel for â€?No Me Digas'. Other notable performances included Marc Anthony's ballad and Jencarlos Canela, Pitbull and T-Pain together in a trio of songs  Don Omar also performed his winning Latin Rhythm Airplay Song of the Year â€?Danza Kudura' with Lucenzo.

Other winners included the Mexican pop group Camila and R&B artist Usher, as Crossover Artist of the Year. Where as, Mexican singer and songwriter Emmanuel received the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award. Gloria Estefan received the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award for her philanthropic work, including her foundation's help for abused and neglected children, spinal cord research and student financial aid.
