Elton John tops UK album chart for first time in 20 years

MUMBAI: Legendary singer Sir Elton John has topped the UK album chart with the album ‘Good Morning to the Night’. The soundtrack is his first chart topper in over 20 years.

According to the official UK Charts Company, John’s album has debuted at the number one position dethroning singer Newton Faulkner, whose album ‘Write It On Your Skin’ fell 10 spots lower.

John teamed up with Australian electronic duo Pnau for his latest album, giving his usual 70s catalogue a modern summer vibe. The album’s title is also the name of the lead track, which has become an official song of the London Olympics.

This is the singer’s first number one album since November 1990 when he released the ‘Very Best of Elton John’. His last studio album to top the charts was ‘Sleeping With The Past’ in June 1990.

In the singles chart, British band Florence + the Machine held on to their number one spot consecutively for a second week, with ‘Spectrum’. Maroon 5 bagged the number two position with ‘Payphone’. X-Factor talent show finalist Misha B was the week’s highest new entry in the singles chart with ‘Home Run’ at number 11.
