DJ Suketu on the sets of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa

MUMBAI: He is the one on the giant sound mixer, he is the one behind the hit Bollywood remixes and he is on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa (JDJ). DJ Suketu is all set to create live mixes for the contestants of JDJ for the episodes of 16 and 17 August. He will be dabbling with beats from a wide variety of genres for the show, which is certainly going to be an entertaining experience for the contestants as well as the viewers.

Mixing for a show is new to his book of activities, as these remixes will be different from anything that he has ever done before. “ I am a DJ who is used to mixing for parties where  I can let the track go on for however long I want with the effects I put in. This is entirely different. I will be mixing live for the episode where I cannot miss a beat or delay it even by a fraction of a second, because the contestants are dancing on it. My tracks need to be timed and precise. It is a lot of pressure,” says Suketu, who has played at some of the biggest college festivals in India.

Suketu plans on launching a new album early next year. “There are a few shows being lined up apart from my new album of remixes which should be out early next year. EDM is big these days, so  I hope to work in collaboration with other DJs, national and international, who are masters of different genres.” With years of successful albums, he talks about the importance of social media publicity. “In today’s day and age, it is necessary to promote your work on the internet, using facebook, twitter and other such platforms. It will also go up on iTunes and other such online stores. I don’t believe in giving glimpses of my work, so there won’t be any EPs or trailers. I will be out with my album directly.”

Being in the music business for 28 years now, Suketu has managed to please a niche audience. “My dad used to say, ‘It is foolish to please everyone’. I target the partying crowds that love shaking a leg to Bollywood remixes. My music is for anybody who likes to dance.”

Speaking of dance, the contestants on JDJ are quite talented themselves. “I used to think my job is stressful. After seeing these talented artists from different fields put in such an amount of effort and practice into their dance, my job seems much less stressful,” adds Suketu jokingly.
