Debutant Arko Mukherjee rides high with Jism 2

MUMBAI: Debutant music composer Arko Mukherjee has hit the right note with the music of Jism 2, as his tracks have been widely appreciated even before its launch.

Comprising of seven tracks, the album features various composers besides Mukherjee who has scored four tracks while the other three tracks are composed individually by Mithoon, Pakistani band Rushk and Abdul Baasith Saeed.

Speaking about the compositions with Radioandmusic.com, Mukherjee says, “The tracks create a haunting and mysterious effect blended with a romantic feel. The story is a very different love triangle displaying several emotions. The tracks have elements of mystery, curiosity, despair and internal conflict. The narrative I received stated that the music had to express what the characters were going through and thus most of the tunes and rhythm are very slow.”

Initially a surgeon, Mukherjee gave up his career in medicine in 2008 to translate his passion for music into a full time career. After facing a lot of obstacles, he finally met Mahesh Bhatt with the help of actor Prashant Narayanan. “When I met Mahesh Bhatt, the film was in its scripting stages. I performed two tracks ‘Maula’ and ‘Abhi Abhi’, which were appreciated a lot by Bhatt. Later, he approached me in January for the music of Jism 2 and also included my two tracks in the album. I was really honoured that he chose a debutant like me for such a big project,” he reminisces.

The much awaited sequel of the 2003 hit film Jism is already riding high on expectations from the audiences and industry fraternity alike. Considering the fact that  music of the film was a chartbuster for a long period, Jism 2 has the challenge of beating the popularity of the earlier tracks and creating a mark for itself.

Mukherjee states, “We had an understanding amongst our team that helped us tweak the songs according to the style of the movie. It was a great experience recording with singer KK as well. We jammed for four hours at a stretch before recording the song. It was a great experience. Moreover, the tracks that I have composed just needed to be tweaked a bit to suit the narrative of the film. So the tracks have not been changed a lot.”

Mukherjee has two more bollywood projects slated to release in 2012-13. The first, ‘Tamanchey’ is a love story in crime world, directed by Suryaveer Singh featuring Nikhil Dwivedi and Richa Chaddha. The composer has scored the title track and background score of the film slated for a December 2012 release. The other film, tentatively titled as ‘Mastan’, is scheduled for a February 2013 release. Mukherjee has already composed four-five tracks for the film.
