DD to mark birth centenary of Faiz Ahmed Faiz in special feature

NEW DELHI: Doordarshan is to telecast a special programme to mark the birth centenary of the eminent Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, who also penned many ghazals Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

The programme, �Bol Ke Lab Azad Hain Tere', features Salima Hashmi, daughter of the poet who was born in 1911 and died in 1984, speaking about the relevance of his poetry. The eminent Ali Sardar Jafri will be speaking on the importance of Faiz's poetry on political subjects, and Agha Shahid Ali will deliberate on translating Faiz into English. The renowned actress Zohra Sehgal and Zia Mohyeddin will recite the poetry of Faiz.

The programme titled â€?Bol ka lab azad hain tere' is being telecast on DD National on 20 June at 8.30 a.m 

Interestingly, the title is taken from a political poem by Faiz who was a staunch Communist. This poem had earlier been rendered to music by singer Tina Sani and the reproduction on YouTube from the website boltapakistan.com is meant to be a protest against the political leadership in Pakistan as it carries images of various political leaders.

Meanwhile, Doordarshan has commenced telecast of the next set of episodes of the weekly �Mann Ki Baat' dealing with stress and mental health issues. The series will be aired on every Saturday at 6 pm on Doordarshan's National channel. The episodes for next two months will deal with various facets of Stress in different populations of the society.

Mann Ki Baat was born out of the need to create a platform for awareness on mental health issues, and has been developed by Dr. Sujatha D. Sharma, a clinical psychologist with over 25 years of experience who has also scripted several other television documentaries on mental health in the past.

Dr. Avdesh Sharma, a well known psychiatrist, is the director and expert anchor of the series. Dr. Avdesh Sharma has anchored and directed numerous health programs for the electronic media for over 30 years. Kanupriya, a well known media personality for nearly two decades, is the anchor of the series.

Another long running series �Kalyani' on Doordarshan has for the first time in its tenth year commenced telecast in the northeast.

The programme has so far been running in the populous states of Rajasthan Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Orissa, Jharkhand and Assam.

The project is a joint effort of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry and Doordarshan and the states to be covered now include Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and Sikkim.
