CMS Bangalore wins Radio One's College Championship

BANGALORE: The results for the fourth edition of the Nokia Radio One College Championship (ROCC) were announced in Bangalore on Tuesday evening. The Center for Management Studies (CMS) Bangalore College team of Namitha D and Vivek Vinayak  won the championship, while  Pratek from Sindhi College Bangalore walked away with the â€?Powerful voice and stylish presence on Radio' Award, which was accompanied by a Mahindra Rodeo motor scooter.

Shyju Varkey, National Head of Marketing Radio One and its Bangalore Station Head, said,  ROCC is an exciting way to reach out to the young and tell them that they can be themselves and make it big....

Judging by the fact that most of the earlier winners have gone ahead and made it big – one became an actress while another is making it big an RJ in the UK, ROCC is a big success,... said Radio One MJ Prithvi who won Indian Excellence in Radio Awards (IEIRA) 2008 as the RJ of the Year 2008, IEIRA 2008 best show award for his Good Morning Bengaluru' and the Rapa Radio and TV Advertising Practitioners Association of India Ltd and the Best Radio Program award for Birthday Bakra'.

The fourth edition of ROCC was designed as a live on-air show to bring out the best radio talents and the best college presenters on radio through an inter-collegiate championship. Ten colleges were identified as audition centers where a number of students were auditioned, with the final ten teams, each team comprising of two people, battled it out live on air for the ROCC 2010 crown.

Radio One Music Jockeys  Rakesh Kumar and Anjan were among those involved in the selection, training and the judging of the winners. Rakesh was a fair but hard taskmaster,  echoed most of the contestants, and earned himself the sobriquet of â€?Guruji.' The process of choosing the winner involved assessing the radio-worthiness of the contestants. This included knowledge of music, humor, ability to handle pressure and think on one's feet,  and how well the teammates combined with one another.

There was a tough competition between the teams and judging was made all the more difficult by the fact that the difference between the teams was just one point – and there was a tie between the teams that stood at the third and fourth places,... revealed Radio One MJ Anjaan.
