Chennai Live promotes indie music with a fest

MUMBAI: In its quest to promote Indian Contemporary music, Chennai Live 104.8 FM  is introducing ‘The Purple Fest’ from 26 April in the city.

Blues, Rock and Progressive Rock band ‘The Family Cheese’ will perform on the inaugural night of the fest. The band comprising of three members- Apurv Isaac, Homi Rustumji and Yohan Marshall was also the winner of the radio station’s popular ‘BandHunt’ competition last year.

The Indian independent bands and musicians will showcase their talent with live performance on the last Thursday of every month at Blend - the Hi Energy Bar at Taj Club House, Mount Road.

Chennai Live 104.8 FM  RJ Rohan Sen said, “The idea for ‘The Purple Fest’ came as a natural extension of our on-air segments- Indian Music Hour and Out of the Box- both of which were conceptualized in order to promote independent music and artistes from India. Chennai itself has a vibrant community of talented musicians, who are just looking for a space to play and we are just acting as the medium and giving them multiple platforms.”

Chennai Live 104.8 FM COO Prem Kumar said, “As a radio station, we have always been promoting independent musicians be it on-air or otherwise. And that is why, unlike a regular commercial station, we play contemporary independent music during specific shows and have complete non-commercial unplugged shows on a weekly basis. ’The Purple Fest’ is just another  step towards the same cause.”
