Bohemia raps his way into desi hearts
MUMBAI: The Bohemia track, I Got the Picture, from Nagesh Kukunoor's film 8x10 Tasveer got a few rave reviews, but there's more coming – the desi- rapper has now released his new album Da Rap Star with Universal music.
The album is a follow-up of his first album Pesha Nasha Pyaar which was released in 2006 under the same label
Not many know that it was Pesha Nasha Pyaar which got Bohemia to Bollywood. Apparently, Akshay Kumar is a great fan of the artiste and used to work-out on his songs from Pesha Nasha Pyar. This prompted Kumar to further go and collaborate with Bohemia on his films like Chandni Chowk to China and then 8X10 Tasveer.
Speaking about the album, Roger David aka Bohemia says, Da Rap Star introduces you to Bohemia. Though the name Rap Star might throw you off and one may feel I am blowing my own horn and calling myself a �star', in truth the songs show the struggle of the star.... The album has 15 tracks in all and features artistes like J Hind and Devika from Delhi.
One of the highlights of the album is the Bohemia interpretation of an Malkit Singh track Gur Naal Ishq Mitha, I love that song and I am glad I was able to make a rap version of that song. Ishq (Gur Naal Ishq Mitha) is my favourite track after all it's a Malkit Singh song – it can't die off...
As far as the new artistes go, Devika is an upcoming singer who shuttles between Delhi and California. She has done an old school classical song called Kende De Naina – she is pretty much new on the scene but is a very well trained vocalist. The tracks that she's there on the album barely expose you to her skill level,... he says.
On the other hand, J Hind was an artiste Bohemia ran into while in the local Los Angeles circles. J Hind has collaborated with prominent artistes from rapper Akon's label. I never planned to have anyone on the album, it was supposed to be a Bohemia album, but after we ran into each other and after we spoke we realised we were pushing the same subject and before you know it – J Hind was on it,... the rapper says nonchalantly.
J Hind would now be joining Bohemia on the promotion tour of the album in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh , Kolkata , Goa till the end of this month. The duo will then promote the album in North America
The rapper would soon be seen with RDB DJ's and then shoot the video for his second track 420. Presently, the track Ek Tera Pyaar from the album is on air.
