MUMBAI: Popular live music hub blueFROG, which revolutionised live music scene in Mumbai is shifting its gears nationwide starting 14 November 2009. Taking a step forward, it will be hosting a two day festival called frogFEST on 14 & 15 November in Delhi to mark the launch of its quarterly nationwide series.
Bluefrog co-founder Ashu Phatak says, "The idea is to showcase local talent nationally, and also to take the blueFROG brand in cities other than Mumbai." Popularly known as the FROG in Mumbai, this popular club has hosted acts like Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Zakir Hussain, Richard Bona, Anoushka Shankar and Trilok Gurtu. The club also started a touring property leapFROG through which many international and local bands were taken on nationwide gigs in cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Calcutta and Delhi – frogFEST is a natural extension of leapFROG.
"We are working towards creating frogFEST on the lines of Glastonbury festival. Since blueFROG's inception, more and more musicians nationally, and even internationally, are becoming aware of blueFROG as a live music hub. With properties like this we hope that more international bands would be interested in touring India," adds Phatak.
However, frogFEST will not be happening in Mumbai, “That’s because we have the blueFROG club here,” he says, “but we plan to host something bigger in Mumbai – a three day fest that will be a culmination of the entire festival. We will bring some bigger international acts,” he says.
Starting from Delhi, frogFEST 2009 will be present a mix of local and international talent once in three months and will be held at different cities each time. The bands confirmed to perform in Delhi's are Indian Ocean, Soulmate, Smoke (day 1) and Men who pause, Bliss Logic and Midival Punditz (day 2). The concert is scheduled at an open air setting at Magique and will kick start at 5 pm.
Approx 700 music enthusiasts are expected attend this festival. The passes are being priced at Rs 750 per day, and Rs 1200 for a two day.
FROG FEST DELHI 2009 is presented by Ballentines, in association with Redbull, Kingfisher Airlines, and venue partner: Magique.
