Big FM Q1 operating loss at Rs 72 mn, revenue up 7.4%

MUMBAI: Reliance Broadcast Network (earlier Reliance Media World), which operates FM radio under the brand Big FM, has witnessed a 7.4 per cent growth in its radio broadcasting business for the fiscal first quarter ended 30 June over the trailing three-month period.

With a net income of Rs 448.33 million in the radio sector, RBNL has suffered an operating loss of Rs 71.96 million from the segment.

The company said that radio inventory utilisation stood at 64 per cent during the quarter.

Total capital deployed on the radio broadcasting segment stood at Rs 2.56 billion.

The company has not provided the previous fiscal's corresponding quarter figures as it was listed on the Stock Exchange on 4 December 2009.

Meanwhile, on a consolidated basis, RBNL has posted its highest quarter income of Rs 507.79 million. However, the expenses stood at Rs 607.26 million.

RBNL claims that it is Ebitda positive for the quarter. We have continued to remain Ebitda positive for the quarter which is very encouraging,... said RBNL CEO Tarun Katial.

In the out-of-home (OOH) business under Big Street, the company acquired significant inventories on a long term PPP basis, it said.

The outdoor segment suffered an operating loss of Rs 13.4 million in the quarter over an income of Rs 45.01 million.

The capital deployed in the OOH segment is Rs 341.66 million.
