Bhimsen Joshi honoured by Delhi govt

MUMBAI: Renowned Hindustani classical musician Bhimsen Joshi  has been honoured with a life time achievement award by the Delhi government for his extraordinary contribution to music.

The awards, carrying a cheque of Rs 11 lakh each and a citation, were given by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to relatives of Joshi at a function.

Sahitya Kala Parishad under Delhi government instituted the awards in 2004 which are conferred on eminent personalities for their outstanding contribution in the fields of music, dance, theatre, visual arts and literature.

Addressing the gathering, Dikshit said her government was privileged to honour Tanvir and Joshi who have significantly contributed to enrich the lives of people and the society.
