Beyonce bags two awards at BET awards

MUMBAI: The latest edition of the BET awards held on 28 June in Los Angeles was dedicated to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The show's lineup was changed after Jackson passed three days before the awards.

The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year.

Jamie Foxx opened the show with a moonwalk and a re-enactment of Jackson's Beat It... with a red jacket and glove. Beyonce Knowles bagged two accolades, becoming the only singer who walks home with multiple trophies at 2009 BET Awards. She received her first award in Best Female R&B Artist category, beating Keyshia Cole, Keri Hilson, Jennifer Hudson and Jazmine Sullivan. Then, Beyonce added another trophy with Video of the Year prize for her "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" music video. The singer thanked Michael Jackson in her acceptance speech.

Ne-Yo won the BET award in the male R&B Artist category beating The-Dream, Jamie Foxx, Ryan Leslie and T-Pain. Day 26 was honoured the Best Group competing with GS Boyz and N.E.R.D.

Hip Hop artist award was pocketed by Lil Wayne and M.I.A. in the male and female category respectively. Jamie Foxx's Blame It... won the award for collaboration with T-Pain.

Though Keri lost Best Female R&B Artist to Beyonce, she managed to snap an honor for Best New Artist. Ohio-based R&B group O'Jays received the lifetime achievement award.

Besides recognizing best icons in music industry, the annual event taking place at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium also honored Best Male and Female Athlete as well as Best Actor and Actress.

Janet Jackson made her first public appearance since her brother's death and spoke on behalf of their entire family, thanking the fans for love and support.
