BBC Four to broadcast Foo Fighters' 'Sonic Highways' documentary in the UK

MUMBAI: Foo Fighters' fans in the UK will be able to watch the anxiously anticipated documentary based on the band's upcoming album 'Sonic Highways' through BBC broadcast, it has been announced. The documentary, which will have eight episodes, will follow the band across eight different cities as they record eight tracks for the album.

The documentary and album, both of which are called 'Sonic Highways', will see frontman David Grohl and his band travel America and use the musical heritage of different cities in each of the eight tracks. It will also see Grohl meeting with and interviewing some of America's most influential musicians. Calling it “a love letter to the history of American music”, 'Sonic Highways' will mark the band's 20th anniversary.

'Sonic Highways', the documentary, will air on 26 October on BBC Four in the UK. While the first two and last two episodes will be broadcast on the BBC Four TV channel, the middle four episodes will be made available for streaming on BBC's iPlayer service.

Speaking on acquiring the rights to broadcast the documentary, BBC Four channel editor Cassian Harrison said, “BBC Four is renowned for its music programming and I am delighted we have acquired this innovative series that takes viewers into the very roots of popular music, in an epic nationwide odyssey.”

The album 'Sonic Highways' is the Foo Fighters' eighth studio album, and will be released on 10 November this year through RCA Records. Meanwhile, the documentary, which is an HBO Original Series, will premier on 17 October on HBO.
