Barfi, Jab Tak Hai Jaan dominate music awards at Filmfare'13

MUMBAI: Barfi and Jab Tak Hai Jaan dominated the music nominations at the 58th Filmfare awards held on Sunday. Marking the centenary celebrations of Indian Cinema, well deserving films took the prestigious black lady home this year.

Pritam took home the Best Music Director and Best Background Score for Barfi, while veteran Gulzar bagged the Best Lyrics award for ‘Challa’ from Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Debutant Ayushmann Khurrana was adjudged as the Best Playback Singer Male for ‘Pani da’ from Vicky Donor, and Shalmali Kholgade took home the Best Playback Singer Female award for ‘Pareshaan’ from Ishaqazaade.

Singer Neeti Mohan picked up the prestigious RD Burman Award for Upcoming Talent in Music for the track ‘Jiya Re’ in Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Kahaani also bagged a technical award for Best Sound Design, received by Sanjay Maurya and Allwin Rego.

Filmfare also paid tribute to the late Yash Chopra who passed away in October 2012. The director was bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his phenomenal contributions to Indian Cinema. Leading lady of many of Chopra’s films Madhuri Dixit Nene presented the award to the late director’s wife Pamela Chopra. A special award titled the ‘Sony Trendsetter of the Year’ was also conferred to the popular film Barfi.

Celebrating the 100 years of Indian Cinema, each winner was given a special gold rimmed trophy. Shah Rukh Khan led the tribute to Indian cinema with a musical parody. The event was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan and witnessed performances by Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif, Usha Uthup, Hrithik Roshan, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt.

The 58th Filmfare awards were held at Yash Raj Films studio in Andheri, Mumbai.
