MUMBAI:The Association of Radio Operators in India (AROI) is hosting country’s first ever conference on Indian FM radio industry ‘Vision 2010’. Commemorating broadcaster’s day in memory of Mahatma Gandhi’s first address to the nation, ‘Vision – 2010’ will be a common platform for the Ministry, radio players and other related authorities to discuss the issues of the Indian Radio Industry and the way forward.

The day-long conference is being organized at Maurya Sheraton, New Delhi on Thursday, 12th Nov’09 and will be attended by the Hon. Minister of Information & Broadcasting Smt. Ambika Soni, industry players, policymakers, media owners and advertisers.

Commenting on the upcoming conference Vision – 2010, AROI president Apurva Purohit said, “The fledgling and nascent private FM radio industry owes its existence to the initiative of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. The private FM Radio industry has worked closely with the Government of India to build this medium and create a massive infrastructure which today reaches out to 150 Mn. people across 91 locations; contributing close to Rs. 100 crores per annum to the Government through the license fee payments / rentals alone. Vision – 2010 is a national platform for all of us concerned to understand the issues facing the industry and take corrective actions. Our vision has been acknowledged by our Hon. Minister and all members through their consent to conduct such sessions regularly and lead the industry to the next level.”

Year 2010 will be a progressive year for the Indian FM Radio industry and is expected to lead to a sea-change. The much awaited Phase III of the Radio Licensing Policy has been in debate for sometime since it is expected to open doors in many ways; whether it is additional investments or new content options on radio; currently very limited to Music only. Vision 2010 will deliberate on various policy issues concerning the Radio industry, in a bid to outline the future course of action. The event will also showcase cost effective and new equipment or technical services to radio players.
