Ankur Tewari & the Ghalat Family to open for Norah Jones

MUMBAI: If you’re planning to be a part of Norah Jones gig in the financial capital on 3 March then there is more to add to on to your excitement. Ankur Tewari & the Ghalat Family will be opening Jones’s debut gig at the Only Much Louder's music festival ' A Summer's Day' in Mumbai.

This is the first time that Jones, who lost her father Pandit Ravi Shankar in December at the age of 92, will perform in India. In addition to Norah Jones and Ankur & The Ghalat Family, the main stage will also feature performances by singer songwriter MWard and the Karsh Kale Collectiv.

Tewari who wears many hats from writing lyrics, singing and composing, feels this opportunity as an honour. Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, he said, “To open the stage at ‘A Summer's Day’ in Mumbai for Norah Jones will be an honour.”

Named after Emily Dickinson’s poem ‘A Something In A Summer’s Day’ the festival has been conceptualised by a team of women, with the idea of curating an event that women would like to go to, placing emphasis on a ‘cheery and easy’ atmosphere marking the arrival of the summer.

The multi-talented singer has recently composed for Luke Kenny’s ‘The Rise of the Zombie’ where he had signed off the copyright for recording to the producer. He said, “I have retained my rights with lyrics but given away the recording rights, just like most of the composers.”

Moreover, Tewari has penned 20 songs out of which he plans to pick up 9 best songs and compile into an album.

Ankur & the Ghalat Family is a group of four members with Tewari (vocalist), Gaurav Gupta (guitar), Johan Pais (Bass) and Sidd Coutto (drums). The band's music is easily digestible pop rock, and their debut album Jannat was released independently in 2010. The band contributed music to the Bollywood film Raat Gayi Baat Gayi in 2009. Tewari has penned many lyrics lately. He has penned for few films recently two track for David and one for ‘The Rise of the Zombie’. He has written lyrics for non film music which will be rendered by Sharada Sharma, Indian sensation on YouTube and also Leslie Lewis.
