All India Radio revenues register drop in '09

NEW DELHI : The commercial revenue of All India Radio dropped substantially from Rs 233,29,60,007 in 2007-008 to Rs 208,59,19,206 in 2008-09.

In fact, officially released figures show that the government owned broadcaster earned Rs 236,15,37,603 in 2006-07 and Rs 222,76,94,290 in 2005-06.

Although the Eleventh Plan for AIR has not yet been approved, work on a total of 194 new AIR stations including 145 FM stations begun in the Tenth Plan has been continued.

AIR at present has 232 stations in the country including 171 FM transmitters are operational in the country as against 248 private FM stations.

In addition, a total of 32 proposals for AIR FM stations are pending and have been included in the 11th Plan.

A total of 94 FM transmitters in the Northeast and 45 in the rest of the country could not be installed because they did not get frequency clearance from WPC, AIR sources told radioandmusic.com.
