Air India exposed in a YouTube music video

MUMBAI: For centuries music has been used as a tool of expression and no wonder that it’s the same in the modern era. Music is a form of art that explores the theological insights and feelings of human and this fact is beautifully showcased recently by an Air India pilot. The pilot, though management is verifying the facts, that whether he is a pilot with the airlines or not, has voiced his frustration through a song.

Titled ‘Air India Rap’, the video uploaded on YouTube has gone viral on social media websites. It begins with the young pilot getting dressed for work and later being informed that his flight has been cancelled. The song portrays the concerns of Air India employees and the current situation of the national carrier.

The singer has also expressed his disappointment with the union for not fighting for pilots' rights, and has blamed the top management for irregular salary, “So let us all get up let us all fight, big guys are killing us they are taking all are rights”.

The pilot has not even spared the women cabin crew members.  “People work here for lifetime they never retire, see old faces everyday gets ma ass on fire, how do I fly with women in 60 ies, they call them air hostess we call them aunties.”

The video starts with a disclaimer, saying that it is not meant to harm anyone’s feeling, but  the song has left the airline and aviation ministry fuming. “We have seen the video. We are verifying the facts, that whether he is a pilot with the airlines or not. And also if the video is doctored or morphed. Management will have to verify all the facts before taking any action,” Air India joint managing director Naseer Ali told an agency.

“We can’t have a knee jerk reaction. After proper verification, there is a provision of issuing show cause, so all legal procedures have to be followed,” he added.

According to sources, the Air India management was not amused with the video at all. The CMD has met the pilot to pull him up for the indiscretion, and the matter would be dealt with at the highest level.

Certainly, the singer will be in trouble for exposing Air India’s current situation in public and the fact that he has shot the music video in uniform, something the airline would not take too kindly, but the damage is done and cannot be retrieved. The video will connect to the youth as it has explicit and degrading lyrics, and the singer has very well gained attraction and done the harm he certainly wanted to do, may be at the cost of his job.
