AIR has 84 radio stations in tribal areas, says Tewari

NEW DELHI: All India Radio (AIR) has set up 84 radio stations in the tribal districts in the country, but employees have been posted only at 54 of these.

Information and Broadcasting Minister (I&B) Manish Tewari told Parliament that employees have not been posted at 25 centers. Low power 100 watt FM (relay) transmitters have been installed at these places which are existing Doordarshan sites and regular operation of these transmitters is being looked after by DD employees.

At five stations, shortage of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) staff has caused delay in commissioning. Despite these constraints, with redeployment of staff, Saraipalli in Chattisgarh has been partially commissioned.

The other three centres are Mandla in Madhya Pradesh, and Dharmanagar and Longtherai in Tripura.

The only station yet to be commissioned is in Dungarpur, Rajasthan.
