AIR DG LD Mandloi faces CVC complaint

NEW DELHI: Among the seven complaints related to Prasar Bharati filed by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry, one involves All India Radio director general LD Mandloi.

The complaint of 9 May 2011 stated that while holding additional charge as Director General of Doordarshan, Mandloi ‘looted’ Doordarshan in connivance with Prasar Bharati Board Member (Finance) AK Jain, Assistant Director (Programming) AM Rao, and another official Kirti by replacing sixteen running television serials with new serials without any reason, ministry sources told Radioandmusic.com. The issue was recently raised and discussed in the parliament.

Another complaint of 18 April 2011 alleged involvement of All India Radio Civil Construction Wing (New Delhi) Executive Engineer (E-I) LK Salgat of illegal acts resulting in undue benefits to himself and favouring the lowest agencies in various tenders.

Earlier on 16 November, the CVC had established five of the seven charges against then CEO BS Lalli who was later suspended. The charges were related to purchase of radio broadcasting rights for 13 cricket series held during 2007-09, amongst others including contracts for management of advertisement revenue arising from the telecast of cricket matches on Doordarshan during 2007, the non-telecast by Doordarshan of T-20 cricket World Cup matches held in South Africa in September 2007, engagement of legal entities to represent Prasar Bharati and hiring of transport and accommodation for the conduct of the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune in 2008.
